There is no secret to success
Earlier this year, I went to
school that I used to attend for 5 years. Despite all the ups and
downs that happened to me at that particular school, I managed to spend 5 years
in that school -completing my final exam. Earlier this year, I went there
for my 2 weeks compulsory attachment to any institute, more or less like a
community project. Why did I choose the school? I’m not a teacher-to-be, and I don’t
think my future career would have something to do with the school. No reason - just because it’s nearby I decided
to just spend my time at my beloved hometown. I used to be there for 5 years,
how come 2 weeks will make any difference? Haha...
During my short course there, I
encountered some students who asked me, “Do you know the secrets to success, sister?”
Ehm, and I was like, uh-oh. Honestly speaking, I’m nobody to talk about success
and stuffs. For a 17 year-old student who asked 22 year-old sister about things
like that, I was pretty sure that she would expect something brilliant coming
from my mouth. Damn, I don’t know of any secrets. And even the word SUCCESS is
too subjective to me. Girl, what matter the most is how you define the SUCCESS
itself. With what achievement would you
consider yourself successful person? With straight A’s in the exam, or being able to
go to college, or just simply by being able to understand what the teacher taught you in the class? Well, everything
depends on you.
"So you define success."
You people always mentioned, “Do
not study hard, but instead study smart!” Uptill today, I myself don’t really
comprehend what’s the real meaning of study smart. It’s easy to mention but
hard to achieve or it’s even harder to know how to study smart.
Again, there’s no secret to success.
What do you need is a lot of practice and maybe some luck I guess. For me, learning
is a skill. And when I mentioned skills, automatically it comes with a LOT of practice. To master the skills, you need to practice. Urgh, what a redundant
here. The brain need to be trained to accept
the learning skills. Let’s take hearing and speech for example. Let’s say if I
go to foreign country and met the natives there and all of them speaking in the
language that I don’t know. I can hear what they say pretty clearly, but I won’t
understand a word and definitely I won’t be able to speak in their language. It’s
because I never learn it, and my brain would never understand the meaning of it.
Unless when you learn and practise, things would be the opposite. Yeah,
learning needs practice.
First of all, objective. When you
learn something, the aim should come first. Doing something without aim is
equal to wasting the precious time. To do well in archery, we need to aim the
target. To begin with a research paper, there should be the purpose of the research.
There must be motive(s) in doing things. To bow down and pray, there must be
intention(s). It’s the intention, aim, objective and purpose that matters the
most in everything that we do. It’s the intention that would determine what you
choose next. And the journey continues....
However, when you don't have the goal or
intentions, things would become very bad. And that's the reason why my first
and second year in university felt like a dead soul since I kept wondering around
trying to know how to study. My exam result was just enough for me to pass and
continue to the next year. Eversince I moved to the 3rd year, only then I felt the
passion and like my future career so much. Yeah, since things are not just
about theories here, I felt better since I can relate the previous knowledge
with the practical part. By the way, I'm now at the half of the 4th year,
there are a lot of things I have learned.
Yeah, life is quite busy nowadays, but the so-called
time management is the important skills to keep me survive as a student. But I
don't say that my so-called 'time management' is good. Just, you don't have to
take certain things seriously and prioritize things, and I would still be able
to enjoy the things I like, for instance watching TV drama and chit-chatting.
Huh, whenever I complained to my mom about being so busy and tiresome as
student, she would just say, " I told you already, you better be a teacher
and teach students, then life would be easier! ' And I was like, "Huh, you
told me huh?" Well, this was quite funny. Honestly, teacher is a respected
career but nowadays, teachers' work is not as easy as the old
days. And I don't think I can handle school students. There are various
kind of students out there and only God knows how hard it would be. At the same
time, I salute some of my friends who had chosen the profession as educator since I'm
aware that, that is not an easy job. And again with the good intention to
educate our future children, I'm pretty sure that the God will ease your way.
Err, should I re-consider to be a teacher after graduating or after completing
master degree? Well, let's see. There's still a long way to go!
This guy is really something. Sometimes, I had wished the same, to a lesser extend!
Okay, I should stop since I think this is quite draggy. Till then, by-bye!
