2011: All and about

“You know what break-shot is, don’t you?
It’s the first shot that break the packed balls...
With that shot, here the game begins”

Ehem! And with the shot by Dream High, I continued to watch Korean dramas that make me laugh, cry and smile throughout this year. Here are some dramas that I watched this year and among them, there are some of true gems.( plus the germs as well) 2011- began with a promising underdog story, Dream High- one of the best I could find and it turned out to be the best musical drama of the year.

For the cast, I love bubbly love between the second pair, Jason and Pilsuk. I also loved how Eunjung portrayed her character Yun Baekhee which full of emotion. But, I think I should give credits to country bumpkin Song Samdong( played by Kim Soohyun) because you’re really good singer and actor!

Okay, another musical-youth –like story, You’ve Fallen for Me( or Heartstring).Ermm, what should I say, I waited for this drama and expected it to be as good as Dream High; but I was wrong. It’s not totally a bad drama but probably because my expectation was too high, I can’t really appreciate this show. The songs and singing were very good but the story seemed like to be missing nowhere and I can’t see the other character’s side except for the main lead. Anyway, I still like this drama and I kept watching it till the end.

Okay, I don't say this drama is frustrating anyway

Let’s move on to rom-com. Haha, what came to my mind when talking about rom-com is Dokko Jin’s face from The Greatest Love(or Best Love). This is a totally hilarious with a lot of metaphor in the scripts. Well, this is from Hong Sisters and they’re really good writers. Watching this drama made me feel like watching Korean variety show which full of laugh and crazy thing. Best Love probably will be my best rom-com drama of the year.

Well, Can’t Lose is another rom-com about husband-wife relationship, fighting each other every single day until they finally realized their love. Well, I love this drama because it never let me bored or annoyed. I loved the characters and it’s good to see Choi Jiwoo in comedy drama since I last saw her in tearful Winter Sonata almost 8 years ago( if I not mistaken).

O-oh, one more- My Princess. Well, another commoner that suddenly come about to know that she is the princess! Wow, it’s a light story for me and I loved some comical scene from My Princess.

Lie to Me has got some potential because the chemistry between main lead is so good. But the story made me depressed; err because it can possibly be a good comedic drama. But it turned out to be nowhere and I stop watching it thoroughly and skip some part until I reach the end. Sorry for that!

Not to forget, Flower Boy Ramen Shop and Protect the Boss is just hilarious as Best Love. But, I haven’t finished it yet because of my packed schedule. So, uptill now I can’t write my personal feeling about Flower Boy Ramen Shop about yet. And I don’t think I have the strength to finish Protect the Boss. Me Too, Flower moved me a bit, but currently watching; nothing much to say about it.

Flower Boy Ramen Shop with Jung Ilwoo

Let’s move on to a darker story, Miss Ripley. I love the story but I dislike the ending because it leave Jang Miri helpless in the end. Park Yoochun, I just recognized you and I was happy that your acting was not that bad.

I don’t know Spy Myungwol fall into what group but one thing for sure I did not understand the direction of this drama but still, I can silently watch this drama.

City Hunter, most probably the best action drama of the year. Well there’re some flaws in the drama but let’s not take into deep on that. Basically, City Hunter offered the best action, promising cast  and even the best soundtrack. I love Sad Run from the OST and I even used it as my phone ringtone. Even tough to the end of the story, I quite dislike the birth secret thing, in action-packed genre- City Hunter is the best. And well, the gorgeous Park Minyoung and hottie Lee Minho  is in City Hunter, what else to offer?

Different style, different feeling

Speaking of Park Minyoung, I am honoured to comment about the currently airing Man of Honour( or Glory Jane) which about to end next week. I would say that this drama bluffs me, and I hate that, A LOT. Okay, I totally thought that this drama is about dream, sports and good value in life. I was totally wrong. It would be better if the drama were about baseball anyway. I felt a betrayal here.

What else, yeah historical drama- saeguk. To be honest Princess Man is the only saeguk that I watch this year and that’s why I can’t compared it with other saeguk. Ermm, basically I love this drama especially when my favourite actor, Park Sihoo and Moon Chaewon in it. People say Tree With Deep Root is another good saeguk, and probably I’ll start watch it soon since it has ended.

Then, time for melodrama and 49 Days is the most addicted one. With the soul and the grim reaper that rocks the afterlife it looked likes it’ll be a comedic but definitely it turned out to be one of the most tearful drama of the year. Some felt betrayed with the ending but I personally love the ending. It taught me to love and appreciate the day that we have today as if it’s our last.

a fate that have been , love that can't be together

Scent of Woman, bring tear at first, but towards the ending I’ve seen how positive it was. Yeah, it’s about a woman fight the cancer and lives the fullest and I really like the ending because it’s beautifully done and unlike 49 Days, this drama gave us hope!

Another tearful drama is from A Thousand Day Promise about a woman diagnosed with fast-progressive Alzheimer’s Disease at young age. With my little medical knowledge, I know that it is impossible for disease like that to progress very fast but still, I cried sometimes watching this series. But I dislike that this drama is too monotonous and it didn’t give any hope at all. We can see a woman started to be dependant and finally die at young age. This is depressing thought. I hope the character get more strength to live on and leave us with as more meaningful impact just like what I’ve seen in 1 Littre of Tears.  However, I love Soo-ae’s performance in the drama. Not to forget, Park Yoohwan is not bad at all.

Finally, it’s time for family drama. I watched Ojakgyo Brothers with no expectation and I’ve come to realize that I love this drama so much. I loved all the pair especially Baek Jaeun and Hwang Taehee, but recently my preferences moves to Hwang Taebum- Cha Sooyoung couple. Ermm, since it has not ended yet, my feeling could change and probably I’ll just keep watching this series.

With all the drama that I’ve stated above, there’s one more drama that that catch my sight, moves my heart and deeply made me fall in love. Can You Hear My Heart ( or Listen to My Heart) is my most preferred drama of the year 2011. It’s really worth watching even though there’s real illogical things happened there- I don’t care.

It gave me the best tearful scene...

The most touching piggyback scene...

 should I include this one?

The most beautiful proposal...

" Would you marry me, so I can hear your voice.."

The refreshing color palette with flowers and trees,

The most positive break-up...even it broke my heart,

The bromance, just enough to feel it...

And the beautiful memories that deeply pierced into my heart. Let’s the caps do the talking!

To put all drama in a post, it’s impossible. What I’ve written here are probably the unforgettable drama of the year 2011. I would say, my top 3 drama are Listen to My Heart, Dream High and 49 Days. Which one is in the first place? I just can’t compare it. They’re good in their own way. What about you? These dramas are just my preferences. Others might have different opinions.
