Funny things about Dr Jin

Dr. Jin is another time-travelling drama. Maybe we don’t get enough from Operation Proposal, Rofftop Prince and Queen In-hyeon’s Man that now we’re travelling backward! Hey, just kidding. The difference is that, the time-traveller is not a baseball player, neither a Joseon scholar not even a Prince either; he is a neurosurgeon from year 2012. Again, why it has to be neurosurgeon? Maybe neurosurgery is a quite popular specialty in Korea, and I don’t know about that.

Song Seung-hun, together with Park Min-young are the main lead of this drama series. I doubted Song’s acting skill to play as a doctor but then I just decided to watch the first and second episodes since I love him as Park Hae-yong in My Princess as well as Kim Nana (Park Min-young) that rocks the City Hunter last year. Plus, the singer-turn-actor Kim Jae-jong is in it.

Jin Hyuk is a genius neurosurgeon with a cold and severe attitude in his interactions with other people due to his personal pursuit of perfection. Through a mysterious power, Jin Hyuk finds himself transported back in time 150 years. He begins treating people there, but the lack of necessary implements and rudimentary medical knowledge of the period forces him to seek new ways to aid the sick. Through this challenging process, Jin Hyuk eventually becomes a genuine doctor.[dramawiki]

Did it mention, GENIUS? Seriously, I don’t see it in the first episodes. What I see is just an arrogant surgeon who refused to operate on the patient, saying “ My diagnosis is correct!” Is your diagnosis really correct? It made me think that, in medicine the diagnosis might not be 100% true and, are you the only neurosurgeon in the house? Absurd!

Also, when he operated his girlfriend, obviously his emotional and physical state was not stable enough and he ended up ruining the whole procedure. Is is ethical to do so? I really don’t think so. Since you’re genius neurosurgeon, you should know who the best neurosurgeon next to you, and that’s the person to trust to operate on your girlfriend. His action reflected to me that he is very selfish. Sorry for that. Harsh! Anyway, the dural layer that look a lot like a plastic wrapper never failed to make me laughed…err

Not enough with the crappy foetus, he even jumped off the tall building to hold on the crappy foetus. Is that yours to begin with? Is that foetus worth dying for? And I would consider it as a suicidal impulse. Normal people will see it like that. After failing to operate on his fiance, he jumped of the hospital building, unable to control his emotion trying to escape. Hmm, fortunately, he didn’t die, just being transported to 150 years back. Was it a genius action? Where did you put your mind, Dr Jin?

And to open up human skull 150 years ago, it’s not easy. There’s risk of infection, risk of seriously unbearable pain. Oh God, you just used local anaesthesia to perform craniotomy? What if patient suddenly regained his consciousness? It’ll be really the most unbearable pain on the Earth. Really, I can’t accept it.
I expected to be as good as Brain in different era, but guess what- this drama is pretty laughable. Not because it’s funny, but there’s certain thing I can’t accept it with my limited five senses. To be honest, there are a lot of thing I did not like about the drama and the characters in terms of professionalism, medical ethics and the list goes on. I’m no one to critique about this drama, but really it’s quite superficial and no skill at all. I don’t want to write about the drama I dislike but I hope it’ll get better along the way. I will decide to keep on looking or not after watching the 3rd and 4th episode next week.

Because of this series I decided to watch the pilot of JIN, the original Japanese earlier version. It’s pretty laughable too, with the crappy foetus and all that, but at least the acting is superb even with not so good-looking actors. I think Dr Jin might be better if it change a lot of nonsense things in JIN but, seriously it just re-do what has been done like a real copy-cat. I know this drama is based on manga, but certain ridiculous thing, you can just edited it out anyway. Make it more realistic please, but I’m aware this is just just a drama. No need to be emotionally involved or you’ll hurt yourself at the end of the day. It made me think how Faith that will premier in August challenge this Dr Jin. I'll wait for that

Till then, anyeong!
p/s: never expected that I could write this long.
