“Golden Time” at a Glance

Well, even though this drama is not one of the anticipated drama of the year, I still spend time to watch the first two episodes. Despite less promotion and discussions all over the net, I think this drama is quite good. I watched this drama because of Can You Hear My Heart’s Boong Woori, Hwang Jung-eum played as first year intern, Kang Jae-in with Lee Sung-gyun( Pasta, Coffee Prince) played as her lack of practice co-worker, Lee Min-woo. Well, they’re both good actors and I really look forward to see them work together in a drama. Well, after watching the first 2 episodes I was quite satisfied with it. It provide good introduction on the lead characters.

Here’s the summary in a few words;

Lee Min-woo was a medical doctor who treat patient at oriental hospital for three years, plus part time medical drama subber ( chinca!)  lacking of practice as an intern. His job only dealing with drug prescribing and order the CT.  Meanwhile, Kang Jae-in is the fresh medical graduates. Both of them cross path when Kang Jae-in went visiting her boyfriend, Bang Sun-woo who happened to be Lee Min-woo housemates. There was motor vehicle accident whereby both of them were at the scene. Lee Min-woo was reluctant to help despite in general practice for 3 years. Unlike him, Kang Jae-in tried to help as much as she can. The victims then were brought to the Emergency Department, where there is a surgeon Choi In-hyuk on duty. Well, to cut it in a few words, he’s totally cool! Okay let’s skip that part first.

The interesting part arose when Lee Min-woo was unable to save a child patient due to his lack of competency and practice. Then, he decided to start his internship and together with Kang Jae-in, they were posted at Emergency Department as the first year interns. Well, just a few words aren’t it?

So, Choi In-hyuk- that guy played by Lee Sung-min, he’s awesome. I’ve seen him as the King in King 2 Heart, a friendly neighbour in Can You Hear My Heart and a hateable doctor in Brain and he did a very good job there. But I was more impressed with him in this drama since he’s playing a very nice, well-mannered character in this drama.

 Choi In-hyuk

 Lee Min-woo

Kang Jae-in

Okay, here comes the critical moments where we valued the awesomeness and the flaws. Ha, no offense.

Things that I like
  • The moment where Lee Min-woo was reluctant to help the victim on the scene of accident and give so many excuses. What a hateable character he could be. Nappeun namja( bad guy!)
  • Lee Min-woo doing running commentary about the patient when Choi was treating the patient. As if he knew everything, huh
  • Choi In-hyuk treating the patient. Every good doctor will do like him.
  • Lee Min-woo with the child patient with VSD. Ermm....

Well they’re many more that I like but I did jut highlight a few...

Things that I dislike
  •  How could a doctor get a license before practice as an intern first? Was it really a real situation there? It’s definitely a big NO here in our country’s practice.
  •  In Emergency department – in a situation when there’s a lot of patients more than the medical staffs can handle, all other doctors from various department will come down and lend the hand. But it’s not happening in Golden Time, instead they refuse to accept the patient...What the..err
  • You can’t argue with the well-known orthopedic surgeon or else, you’ll be slapped on the face just like Lee Min-woo sshi. Hah!
  • Person who has links with the board of directors of hospital will get special treatment from the staffs.Ermm...
Poor guy, you've got a slap...

Despite the flaws and stuffs, this drama- especially Lee Min-woo made me realize that you shouldn't be too comfortable in your own comfort zone. Yeah, because of his lack of experience dealing with emergency situation, he eventually decided to start fresh and learning more. That's true that learning process shouldn't end after you graduate, learning should be lifelong since any knowledge will be updated as time passes. You'll definitely be questioned on your ability once you did thing unsatisfactorily. In my opinion, Lee Min-woo wasn't lacking with knowledge, and I bet he knew a lot, however since there's no practice- he lacked the skills. These two components, knowledge and skills are complement to each other. I would like to see how would this drama  bring about Lee Min-woo's gradual transformation in his career.

Anyway let's watch this drama together and let's see what it would bring along the way.One last thought- why Lee Min-woo's haircut was made that way as if he survived  after shock by electric current? Hah..( I LOLed)

 Ya, give me 5!

Till then, hasta la vista!
